I teach Portuguese to many students that speak spanish. This is good because Portuguese and Spanish have many similarities but at the same time it can be a bit confusing.
Today a student said: âDepois da aula eu vou a comerâ (After class I will eat)
In Spanish they have this structure, they use the “A” before the main verb. In Portuguese we speak without the “A”. It is simpler: âDepois da aula eu vou comerâ
This is a tense that I call âSimple Futureâ. It is different from the âFuture of the Presentâ that is taught in grammar books. However, in my opinion, it is much more useful, since it is the way that Brazilians speak on a daily basis.
To use this tense is very simple: just conjugate the verb “IR” (To go) in the present (according to the corresponding personal pronoun) and then put the main verb in the infinitive!
Take a look at this table:
| Pronoun | VERB IR |
| Eu | Vou |
| VocĂȘ | Vai |
| Ele / Ela | Vai |
| A Gente | Vai |
| NĂłs | Vamos |
| VocĂȘs | VĂŁo |
| Eles / Elas | VĂŁo |
Ex:
Ano que vem eu VOU VIAJAR pro Brasil – Next year I WILL TRAVEL to Brazil
Depois do almoço ela VAI ESTUDAR portuguĂȘs – After lunch she WILL STUDY portuguese
Eles VĂO CHEGAR amanhĂŁ – They WILL ARRIVE tomorrow
ThatÂŽs all! It’s that simple! Practice with these exercises: SIMPLE FUTURE

| Pronoun | VERB IR |
| Eu | Vou |
| VocĂȘ | Vai |
| Ele / Ela | Vai |
| A Gente | Vai |
| NĂłs | Vamos |
| VocĂȘs | VĂŁo |
| Eles / Elas | VĂŁo |
Ex:
Ano que vem eu VOU VIAJAR pro Brasil
Depois do almoço ela VAI ESTUDAR portuguĂȘs
Eles VĂO CHEGAR amanhĂŁ
