This Sunday, October 30th, there are elections in Brazil. It is a very important day when Brazilians will decide who will be the future president of Brazil.
Brazil is a presidential republic. We have a president and that president is chosen directly through elections. This president’s term lasts for 4 years, and may be extended for another four years through new elections. After eight years, if he wants to run again for president he needs to wait 4 years to run again.
Voting in Brazil is mandatory. The elections are approaching and the population is very divided between 2 candidates who are practically tied according to the polls.
The first candidate is Lula. Lula was president of Brazil from 2003 to 2011. He represents the left and is from the PT, the Workers’ Party, and is represented by the number 13.
The second candidate is Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro is the current president of Brazil and is seeking re-election. He represents the right and is from the PL, Liberal Party, represented by the number 22.
The electoral system in Brazil is very efficient. Here we vote through an electronic ballot box that works very simply: we enter the candidate’s number and then press “confirm”. The process doesn’t even take 10 seconds. The most interesting thing is that on the election day itself, we can already know the result of who will be the future president.
The atmosphere in Brazil is tense. I am 38 years old and I have never experienced a situation like this. Friends fighting and family arguing over politics. Who will vote for Bolsonaro does not agree with who will vote for Lula and vice versa. It’s accusation and offense on all sides!
I wish good luck to both candidates and whoever gets elected, do a good job.

Esse domingo, dia 30 de outubro, tem eleições no Brasil. É um dia muito importante quando os brasileiros vão decidir quem vai ser o futuro presidente do Brasil.
O Brasil é uma república presidencialista. Temos um presidente e esse presidente é escolhido diretamente através de eleições. O mandato desse presidente dura 4 anos, podendo ser prolongado por mais quatro anos através de novas eleições. Depois de oito anos, se ele quiser concorrer de novo a presidente ele precisa esperar 4 anos para se candidatar novamente.
O voto no Brasil é obrigatório. As eleições estão se aproximando e a população está muito dividida entre 2 candidatos que estão praticamente empatados de acordo com as pesquisas.
O primeiro candidato é o Lula. O Lula já foi presidente do Brasil de 2003 a 2011. Ele representa a esquerda e é do PT, Partido dos Trabalhadores, e é representado pelo número 13.
O Segundo candidato é o Bolsonaro. O Bolsonaro é o atual presidente do Brasil e está tentando a reeleição. Ele representa a direita e é do PL, Partido Liberal, representado pelo número 22.
O sistema eleitoral no Brasil é muito eficiente. Aqui a gente vota através de uma urna eletrônica que funciona de forma muito simples: a gente digita o número do candidato e depois aperta “confirma”. O processo não dura nem 10 segundos. O mais interessante é que no próprio dia das eleições a gente já consegue saber o resultado de quem vai ser o futuro presidente.
O clima no Brasil está tenso. Eu tenho 38 anos e eu nunca vivenciei uma situação igual a essa. Amigos brigando e familiares discutindo por causa de política. Quem vai votar no Bolsonaro não concorda com quem vai votar no Lula e vice-versa. É acusação e ofensas por todos os lados!
