Living in Rio de Janeiro is living in the middle of nature. Today I visited the “Parque da Catacumba”, which is in the Lagoa neighborhood. The place is beautiful and has many leisure options.
Right at the entrance there is a playground with several toys. Throughout the Park you can see sculptures by Brazilian artists and there are also several adventure activities such as trails, tree climbing, climbing wall, zip line and rappel.
I went with the main objective of doing the trails that are in the park. Everything is very well signposted and it was easy to find the beginning of the trail. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the first stop, the “Mirante do Urubu”. It was a light level hike, with some steep parts. (If you have no experience with this type of activity, I suggest hiring a specialized company).
The view from this viewpoint is wonderful. It has a deck where you can spend time and enjoy the view. Right away you can see Corcovado and Christ the Redeemer and just ahead we can also see a good part of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. Not to mention all the green nature that decorates the city of Rio.
Right after I went to check out the “Mirante do Sacopã”. It takes approximately 10 mins walk between “Urubu” and Sacopã ”and the view from this last viewpoint is sensational. It’s possible to see another part of the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Pedra da Gávea, Morro Dois Irmãos and part of Ipanema Beach. I stayed up there for about 20 minutes just admiring my city 🙂
The truth is that I was impressed with the organization and the amount of things that you have to do in this Park. After reading the story I understood why. First the name: “Catacumba” was given because it was possibly an Indian cemetery. Then the place became a private property that, with the death of the owner, started to be occupied by several families and over time it became a slum. During that period there was a lot of deforestation, but in the 1980s there was a process of revitalization of the place, when they removed the favela and started a reforestation project. I only have one thing to say: “good job” lol.
If you come to Rio, I recommend visiting this park. Your day will be very pleasant.

Morar no Rio de Janeiro é morar no meio da Natureza. Hoje eu visitei o Parque da Catacumba, que fica no bairro da Lagoa. O lugar é lindo e tem muitas opções de lazer.
Logo na entrada tem um parque infantil com diversos brinquedos. Por todo o Parque você vê esculturas de artistas brasileiros e, para completar, ainda tem diversas atividades de aventura como trilhas, arvorismo, muro de escalada, tirolesa e rapel.
Eu fui com o objetivo principal de fazer as trilhas que têm no parque. Tudo é muito bem sinalizado e foi fácil encontrar o início da trilha. São aproximadamente 20 minutos até a primeira parada, o “Mirante do Urubu”. Foi uma caminhada de nível leve, com algumas partes mais íngremes. (Caso você não tenha experiência com esse tipo de atividade, sugiro contratar alguma empresa especializada).
O visual desse mirante é maravilhoso. Tem um deck onde você pode passar um tempo e apreciar a vista. De cara você já ve o Corcovado e o Cristo Redentor e logo a frente conseguimos ver também uma boa parte da Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. Isso sem contar todo o verde da natureza que decora a cidade do Rio.
Logo depois eu fui conferir o “Mirante do Sacopã”. São 10 mins aproximadamente de caminhada entre o “Urubu” e o Sacopã” e a vista deste último mirante é sensacional. Conseguimos ver mais uma parte da Lagoa, a Pedra da Gávea, o Morro Dois Irmãos e parte da Praia de Ipanema. Fiquei lá em cima mais uns 20 minutos só admirando a minha cidade 🙂
A verdade é que eu fiquei impressionado com a organização e com a quantidade de coisas que tem para fazer nesse Parque. Depois de ler a história eu entendi o motivo. Primeiro o nome: “Catacumba” foi dado porque ali era possivelmente um cemitério Indígena. Depois o local passou a ser uma propriedade privada que com a morte da dona passou a ser ocupado por diversas famílias e ao longo do tempo virou uma favela. Nesse período houve muito desmatamento mas na década de 80 teve um processo de revitalização do lugar, quando removeram a favela e fizeram um projeto de reflorestamento. Só tenho uma coisa a dizer: “bom trabalho” rsrs.
Se vier ao Rio, recomendo visitar esse parque. Seu dia vai ser muito agradável.
