Morro de São Paulo is an island in Bahia/Brazil, located 60km from the city of Salvador and is a very famous destination mainly because of the paradisiacal beaches it has. I always had the dream of visiting this place and in December 2022 I managed to travel there. It was so worth it and exceeded all my expectations. In this article you will find everything you need to know about Morro de São Paulo.
How to get there?
I was in Salvador before going to Morro de São Paulo. After doing a lot of research I decided to go by Catamaran. First, because it was the fastest way to travel: Salvador x Morro de São Paulo took 2 hours. Second, because the price was very affordable: I paid R$ 140.00 for one way ticket. Thirdly, because I think it’s more fun to go by boat kkkk.
The logistics are very simple: in Salvador you need to take the catamaran at the nautical tourist terminal, which is right next to the Mercado Modelo. In Morro de São Paulo, the Catamaran will leave you at the main pier of the island.
I recommend to buy the ticket in advance. I bought mine online with the company Bahia Turismo. I liked the service offered. On the way back from Morro de São Paulo to Salvador I also came back by Catamaran with the same company. The amount was approx. R$ 130.00
From what I learned, some people go by land and at a certain place they take a boat. This option was more expensive and the total journey took approximately 4 and a half hours.
Before going to the next point, it’s important for me to tell you that the catamaran rocks a lot. Some people got seasick in the middle of the trip. If you have a problem with this, it might be better to think about the land + boat option.
Arriving in Morro de Sao Paulo
When disembarking at the pier there are some local workers who will help you if you have a lot of luggage. The value varies according to the number of bags and you negotiate directly with the person. I only went with a backpack, so I didn’t need this service.
Shortly after disembarking, you are directed to a place where you need to pay a fee to enter the island. The cost is BRL 30.00 and the process is very simple and very fast. Payment can be made in cash or by credit card. After confirming the payment, you receive a voucher and are released to finally enter Morro de São Paulo.

I was impressed with the amount of things to do in Morro de São Paulo. I stayed there for 3 days and I didn’t get to do everything. I’ll tell you my script
Walk from the first to the fourth beach
This is the most traditional tour of Morro de São Paulo. My suggestion is that you save a day just for this. In addition to taking a long time to do everything calmly, this walk is very tiring. In the end, you’ll just want to sit somewhere and rest lol.
Before we start, I need to give you a valuable tip: find out about the tide tables! This tour is nice to do at low tide so you can enjoy the natural pools that form along the way.
The tour starts at the first beach. This is a quieter, more familiar beach. On the way from the first to the second beach there is a lookout point with a wonderful view. It is the postcard of Morro de São Paulo. It’s worth stopping to admire the view and take some pictures.
After the lookout, you will walk to the second beach, the most popular on the island. It is there that you will find the greatest concentration of people. The place is very well structured, with several options of bars and restaurants. If you are hungry, now is the time to eat because on the third and fourth beaches there are not many options.
The third beach is impressive. It was there that I saw the biggest natural pool of my life. I started the tour very early, with the tide very low, so I saw many natural pools, mainly on the third beach. This is an excellent tour for you to reconnect with nature. On one side the sea. On the other the coconut trees. This was the scenario of my journey.
The fourth beach is not for everybody. She is very far away. There is a certain moment when you are absolutely alone. I stayed on this part of the island for quite some time, until the tide started to come in. At that moment I decided to go back.
By the end of the tour I was exhausted. I came back at the end of the day and the first thing I did was eat. I sat down at a beachside restaurant and ordered fish with rice, beans, french fries and farofa. To accompany, a beer. Well deserved!
Gamboa beach
On the second day I visited Praia da Gamboa, the neighbor of Morro de São Paulo. It is not so famous and not so touristy. It’s a more rustic place. I love. Usually people live in Praia da Gamboa and work in Morro de São Paulo.
My idea was to walk to this beach during low tide, but I was still tired from the day before. So I decided to go by boat. It’s very simple: just go to the main pier and buy a ticket for R$5.00. The boat leaves every hour. Remember that fee you paid of R$ 30.00 to enter the island? Take the little piece of paper with you because when you return from this tour you will need to show it.
The journey takes approximately 20 minutes and on the way you can see some famous sights of the place: Praia do Porto de Cima, Praia da Ponta de Pedra and Paredão de Argila, famous for its therapeutic properties. Upon arriving at Praia da Gamboa, I went for a walk on the main street. I found the place very cozy. I loved. After that I just lazed on the beach and thought about life. When I got hungry I went to one of the restaurants on the beach. That day I tasted a typical food from Bahia: Pirão de Aipim with Carne de Sol. I recommend!
At the end of the afternoon I went to the pier, bought a return ticket for R$5.00 and went back to Morro.
Sunset in Morro de Sao Paulo
I made it back in time to see the Sunset. There are some places where you can watch this show. I like quieter places so I watched the sunset from a place called “Mirante do Farol”. It’s quite simple: when you arrive on the island, you’ll go up a street. After this street, you will turn left. Soon a slight climb will begin and then you will see a stair. Go up to Farol da Ilha and at Farol, turn left and walk until you reach the deck. On the day I was very lucky because besides everything there was a band playing live music.
If you like more busy places, another famous sunset on the island is “Toca do Morcego”. There is a restaurant where you can sit down, eat something and have a few drinks while watching the sunset.
Nightlife
Nightlife in Morro de São Paulo is very busy. There are options for all tastes: quieter bars, romantic restaurants, busier places, etc.
Close to First Beach is the main street, with most of the island’s trade with several options of bars and restaurants. From what I could see, this main street was where the quietest, most familiar places were.
If you want more excitement or romance, I think the best option is the second beach. It was there that I saw the coolest places for it.

Zipline
On the last day I went zipline! I love an adventure. This zipline is considered the largest in the world with a drop into the sea and it is 74 meters high.
Getting to this zipline is very easy. Let’s take the island’s main pier as a reference again, okay? Imagine you are going up that long hill… after that you will turn left. Walk a little until you start a slight climb and soon you will see a stair. Go up to Farol da Ilha and at Farol… it looks like you’ve done this path before, right? Hahahaha. But this time you’re going to turn right. Soon you will arrive at the Zipline. There is a company responsible for the structure (Instagram: @tirolesamorrodesaopaulo). They are open every day from 10 am to 5 pm. I paid BRL 90.00 for the jump and BRL 30.00 for the photos and video and you can check the result here: Zipline
The zipline drops at First Beach. The rest of the day I was just relaxing and at the end of the day I went back to Salvador.
Where to stay in Morro de Sao Paulo?
In Morro de São Paulo you will find different types of accommodation, from the humblest with shared beds to the most sophisticated with a pool and resort services.
I stayed at an accomodation close to the First Beach. I really liked the location. This is where the largest concentration of accommodation on the island is located. There you will also find the main street with bars, restaurants, shops, pharmacy, supermarket, etc.
I also liked this part of the island because you can walk from the main pier to the accommodation.
You will also find some accommodation options on Second Beach. There, from what I noticed, are the most sophisticated lodgings. You can also walk from the Main Pier to Second Beach.
On the third and fourth beaches you will also find accommodation options. In this part of the island you will find the hotels with more structure. Not quite a Resort, but they are pretty cool hotels. People who stay here are usually the ones looking for tranquility, as these hotels are far from the center of the island.
The negative point, in my opinion, is that at the main pier you still need to take another boat to the accommodation.

Eu sempre tive o sonho de visitar esse lugar e em dezembro de 2022 eu consegui viajar pra lá. Valeu muito a pena e superou todas as minhas expectativas. Como chegar lá?
Eu estava em Salvador antes de ir pra Morro de São Paulo. Depois de fazer muita pesquisa eu resolvi ir de Catamarã. Primeiro porque era o transporte mais rápido: o trajeto Salvador x Morro de São Paulo foi de 2 horas. Segundo porque o valor era bem acessível: eu paguei R$ 140,00 no trecho Salvador x Morro de São Paulo. Em terceiro lugar porque eu acho mais divertido andar de barco kkkk.
A logística é muito simples: em Salvador você precisa pegar o catamarã no terminal turístico náutico, que fica bem ao lado do Mercado Modelo. Em Morro de São Paulo a embarcação vai te deixar no Píer principal da ilha.
É bom comprar o transporte com antecedência. Eu comprei o meu on-line com a empresa Bahia Turismo. Eu gostei do serviço oferecido. Na volta de Morro de São Paulo para Salvador eu também voltei de Catamarã com a mesma empresa. O valor foi de aprox.. R$ 130,00
Pelo que eu me informei, algumas pessoas vão por via terrestre e em determinado lugar elas pegam um barco. Essa opção era mais cara e o trajeto total demorava aproximadamente 4 horas e meia.
Antes de irmos para o próximo ponto é importante eu dizer pra você que o catamarã balança muito. Algumas pessoas enjoaram no meio da viagem. Se você tiver problema com isso talvez seja melhor você pensar na opção transporte terrestre + barco
Chegando em Morro de São Paulo
Ao desembarcar no píer há alguns trabalhadores locais que ajudam você caso você tenha muita bagagem. O valor varia de acordo com a quantidade de malas e você negocia diretamente com a pessoa. Eu só fui com uma mochila, então não precisei desse serviço.
Logo após o desembarque você é encaminhado para um lugar onde você precisa pagar uma taxa pra entrar na ilha. O valor é de R$ 30,00O e o processo é muito simples e muito rápido. O pagamento pode ser feito em dinheiro ou cartão de crédito. Após a confirmação do pagamento você recebe um comprovante e é liberado para finalmente entrar em Morro de São Paulo.
O que fazer em Morro de São Paulo?
Eu fiquei impressionado com a quantidade de coisas que tem pra fazer em Morro de São Paulo. Eu fiquei lá por 3 dias e não consegui fazer tudo. Eu vou contar pra vocês o meu roteiro
Andar da primeira até a quarta praia
Esse é o passeio mais tradicional de Morro de São Paulo. A minha sugestão é que você reserve um dia apenas para isso. Além de tomar muito tempo para fazer tudo com calma, essa caminhada é bem cansativa. Ao final você só vai querer se sentar em algum lugar e descansar rsrs.
Antes de começarmos eu preciso te dar uma dica valiosa: se informe sobre as tábuas da maré! Esse passeio é legal de fazer com a maré vazia para você poder curtir as piscinas naturais que vão se formando ao longo do caminho.
O passeio começa na primeira praia. Essa é uma praia mais tranquila, mais familiar. No caminho da primeira para a segunda praia tem um mirante com uma vista maravilhosa. É o cartão postal de Morro de São Paulo. Vale a pena parar para admirar o visual e tirar algumas fotos.
Depois do mirante você vai caminhar até a segunda praia, a mais badalada da ilha. É lá que você vai encontrar a maior concentração de pessoas. O lugar é muito bem estruturado, com várias opções de bares e restaurantes. Se você estiver com fome, o momento de comer é agora porque na terceira e na quarta praia não tem muitas opções.
A terceira praia é impressionante. Foi lá que eu vi a maior piscina natural da minha vida. Eu comecei o passeio bem cedo, com a maré bem vazia, então eu vi muitas piscinas naturais, principalmente na terceira praia. Esse é um passeio excelente para você se reconectar com a natureza. De um lado o mar. Do outro os coqueiros. Esse foi o cenário do meu percurso.
A quarta praia é pra poucos. Ela fica bem afastada. Chega um determinado momento em que você fica absolutamente sozinho. Eu fiquei nessa parte da ilha por um bom tempo, até a maré começar a encher. Nesse momento eu decidi voltar.
No final do passeio eu estava exausto. Eu voltei no final do dia e a primeira coisa que eu fiz foi comer. Me sentei em um restaurante na beira da praia e pedi um peixe com arroz, feijão, batata-frita e farofa. Pra acompanhar, uma cerveja. Merecido!
Praia da Gamboa
No segundo dia eu visitei a Praia da Gamboa, a vizinha de Morro de São Paulo. Não é tão famosa e tão turística. É um lugar mais rústico. Eu adoro. Geralmente as pessoas moram na Praia da Gamboa e trabalham em Morro de São Paulo.
A minha ideia era ir caminhando durante a maré vazia até essa Praia, mas eu ainda estava cansado do dia anterior. Por isso eu decidi ir de barco. É muito simples: basta você ir até o píer principal e comprar uma passagem por R$ 5,00. O barco sai de hora em hora. Lembra aquela taxa que você pagou de R$ 30,00 pra entrar na ilha? Leve o papelzinho com você porque quando você voltar desse passeio você vai precisar apresentá-lo.
O trajeto leva aproximadamente 20 minutos e no caminho você pode ver alguns pontos turísticos famosos do lugar: Praia do Porto de Cima, Praia da Ponta de Pedra e o Paredão de Argila, famoso por suas propriedades terapêuticas. Ao chegar na Praia da Gamboa eu fui dar uma volta na rua principal. Eu achei o lugar muito aconchegante. Adorei. Depois disso e apenas fiquei descansando na praia e pensando na vida. Quando eu fiquei com fome e fui em um dos restaurantes que ficam na beira da praia. Nesse dia eu provei uma comida típica da Bahia: Pirão de Aipim com Carne de Sol. Recomendo!
No final da tarde eu fui até o píer, comprei a passagem de volta por R$ 5,00 e voltei pra Morro.
Pôr do Sol em Morro de São Paulo
Eu consegui voltar a tempo de ver o Pôr do Sol. Têm alguns lugares onde você pode assistir a esse espetáculo. Eu gosto de lugares mais tranquilos então eu assisti ao pôr do Sol de um lugar chamado “Mirante do Farol”. É bem simples: quando você chega na ilha, você vai subir uma ladeira. Após essa ladeira você vai dobrar pra esquerda. Logo vai começar uma leve subida e em seguida você vai ver uma escada. Suba até o Farol da Ilha e no Farol, vire a esquerda e caminhe até chegar no deck. No dia eu dei muita sorte porque além de tudo estava tendo uma banda tocando música ao vivo.
Se você gosta de lugares mais badalados, um outro pôr do sol famoso da Ilha é o da “Toca do Morcego”. Lá é um restaurante onde você vai poder se sentar, comer alguma coisa e tomar alguns drinks vendo o pôr do sol.
Vida Noturna
A vida noturna de Morro de São Paulo é muito movimentada. Tem opção pra todos os gostos: bares mais calmos, restaurantes românticos, lugares mais agitados, etc.
Perto da Primeira Praia fica a rua principal, com a maior parte do comércio da ilha com várias opções de bares e restaurantes. Pelo que eu percebi, nessa rua principal era onde ficavam os lugares mais calmos, mais familiares.
Se você quiser mais agito ou romantismo, acho que a melhor opção é a segunda praia. Foi lá que eu vi os lugares mais legais pra isso.

Tirolesa
No último dia eu fui na tirolesa! Eu adoro uma aventura. Essa tirolesa é considerada a maior do mundo com queda no mar e ela fica a 74 metros de altura.
Para chegar nessa tirolesa é muito fácil. Vamos pegar como referência o píer principal da ilha de novo, ok? Imagine que você está subindo aquela longa ladeira.. depois disso você vai dobrar à esquerda. Caminhe um pouco até começar uma leve subida e logo você vai ver uma escada. Suba até o Farol da Ilha e no Farol… parece que você já fez esse caminho antes, né? Kkkk. Mas dessa vez você vai dobrar à direita. Logo você vai chegar na Tirolesa. Lá tem uma empresa responsável pela estrutura (Instagram: @tirolesamorrodesaopaulo). Eles funcionam todos os dias, das 10h às 17h. Eu paguei R$ 90,00 pelo salto e R$ 30,00 pelas fotos e pelo vídeo e você pode conferir o resultado aqui: Tirolesa
A tirolesa cai na Primeira Praia. O resto do dia eu fiquei só relaxando e no final do dia eu voltei pra Salvador.
Onde ficar em Morro de São Paulo?
Em Morro de São Paulo você vai encontrar diversos tipos de hospedagem, desde as mais humildes com quartos compartilhados até as mais sofisticadas com piscina e serviços de resort.
Eu fiquei hospedado em uma pousada perto da Primeira Praia. Gostei muito da localização. É lá que fica a maior concentração de hospedagens da ilha. Ali você também vai encontrar a rua principal com bares, restaurantes, lojas, farmácia, supermercado, etc.
Eu também gostei dessa parte da ilha porque dá pra ir andando do píer principal até as acomodações.
Você também vai encontrar algumas opções de hospedagem na Segunda Praia. Lá, pelo que eu percebi, são as hospedagens mais sofisticadas. Também dá pra ir andando do Píer Principal até a Segunda Praia.
Na terceira praia você também vai encontrar opções de hospedagem. Nessa parte da ilha você vai encontrar os hotéis com mais estrutura. Não chegam a ser um Resort, mas são hotéis bem bacanas. Geralmente as pessoas que ficam aqui são as que estão procurando tranquilidade, visto que esses hotéis ficam afastados do centro da Ilha.
O ponto negativo, na minha opinião, é que no Píer Principal você ainda precisa pegar outra embarcação até a acomodação. Eu acredito que a hospedagem deve ajudar nessa questão.
