Learn Brazilian Portuguese
In this article I will conjugate and give you some examples of how to use the verb MANTEE (TO REMAIN / TO KEEP) in the main verb tenses in Portuguese. Pay close atention here because at the end of the article there is a link with an exercise that I prepared for you to practice.
But, first, I need to give you some information.
Some differences between my recommendations and those you will find in grammar books . That’s because in my method I am as practical as possible and I teach the language that is really spoken in our everyday conversations.
As an example of this I included some personal pronouns: “Você” and “Vocês” (YOU). The books propose the pronouns “TU” and “VÓS” but I sincerely recommend not using them since “Você” and “Vocês” are more widely used.
In the personal pronouns I also included the pronoun “A gente”. It refers to the 1st person of the plural (WE), as well as “Nós”. The point is that in the spoken language it is much more common to use “A gente”, in addition to being much easier to conjugate the verbs.
“Nós” is much more used in the written language (newspapers, magazines).
Finally, I propose to use the “Simple Future”. The name of this tense was given by me and its use is infinitely more common than the “Future of the Present” suggested by the books. (To see how the “Simple Future” is used, read this article)

Nesse artigo eu vou conjugar e te dar alguns exemplos de como usar o verbo MANTER nos principais tempos verbais em Português. Atenção porque no final do artigo tem um link com um exercício que eu preparei para você praticar.
Porém antes preciso passar algumas informações.
No artigo abaixo você vai encontrar algumas diferenças com relação aos livros de gramática. Isso porque no meu método eu sou o mais prático possível e ensino o idioma que realmente é falado no nosso dia-a-dia.
Como exemplo disso eu inclui alguns pronomes pessoais: “Você” e “Vocês”. Os livros propõem o pronome “TU” e “VÓS” mas eu, sinceramente, recomendo não utilizar esses últimos visto que “Você” e “Vocês” são amplamente mais utilizados.
Nos pronomes pessoais eu também incluí o pronome “A gente”. Ele se refere a 1a pessoa do plural (WE), assim como o “NÓS”. A questão é que na linguagem falada é muito mais comum o uso do “A gente”, Além de ser muito mais fácil de conjugar os verbos.
O “NÓS” é muito mais utilizado na linguagem escrita (Jornais, revistas..).
Para finalizar, eu proponho o uso do “Futuro Simples”. O nome desse tempo verbal foi dado por mim e o seu uso é infinitamente mais comum do que o “Futuro do Presente” sugerido pelos livros. (Para saber como usar o “Futuro Simples” leia esse artigo)

EXAMPLES – EXEMPLOS
Presente: Eu sempre mantenho a calma em situações difíceis. – I always remain calm in difficult situations.
Passado: Ela manteve a calma e conseguiu resolver tudo. – She remained calm and managed to resolve everything.
Futuro: Você vai manter a sua palavra? – Will you keep your word?
Pret. Imperfeito: Eles mantinham os cachorros dentro de casa. – They kept the dogs indoors.
Fut. do Pretérito: Eu manteria isso dentro da geladeira mas ela está quebrada. – I would keep this in the fridge but it’s broken.
Pres. Subj: Eu espero que vocês mantenham a palavra. – I hope you keep your word.
Pret. Imp. Subj: Tudo se resolveria de forma mais fácil se vocês mantivessem a serenidade. – Everything would be resolved more easily if you kept calm.
Fut. Subj: Eu vou ficar muito feliz se você mantiver a palavra. – I’ll be very happy if you keep your word.
Imperativo: Mantenha a calma! – Keep calm!
*IMPERATIVO (NÓS): Despite the grammar books rules, in Brazil you can use the verb IR conjugated in the present (1st person of plural) + the main verb in the infinitive – Apesar das regras dos livros de gramática, no Brasil você pode usar o verbo IR conjugado no presente (1a pessoa do plural) + o verbo principal no infinitivo: VAMOS MANTER as esperanças. – LET’S KEEP hope.
**IMPERATIVO (NEGATIVE) – Just add the word “Não” in front of the verb. Ex: Não mantenha isso fora da geladeira. – Don’t keep this out of the fridge.
